For crust:

  • 3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup margarine (cubed)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

For filling:

  • 1 pound cottage cheese
  • 1 cup chopped pitted prunes
  • 3 egg
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


In a large bowl, combine margarine and flour. Cut in shortening, using knife or fork, until mixture forms coarse crumbs. Add sugar and baking soda. Stir thoroughly. Cover, and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Mix cottage cheese, eggs, sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until sugar is dissolved. Add prunes, mix.

Divide the dough into 2 equal parts. Place one part into the pie form, spread and crimp the edge.

Pour filling into pie shell. Top with the remaining dough.

Preheat oven to 350 ° F (175 ° C). Bake the pie about 40 – 50 minutes until golden brown.

Let the pie cool before cutting.
